What is Cube Creatures?
Cube Creatures is an easy-to-learn battle card game for kids and families. Created by Porter, age 7, and his dad, it combines wild hand-drawn creature art, quick 15-minute battles, collectible cards, strategic depth and a portable shared-deck into a game you’ll love playing with your kids.

Who makes Cube Creatures?
We’re a father-son team, Porter and DJ, working out of Oakland, California. Porter was 7 when we designed the first version and is the creative engine behind many of the creatures, characters and ideas. We work on the gameplay together, testing mechanics and changing things as we play.
I’m a lifelong gamer and musician, worked as a software engineer in the gaming industry, and made my first board game back in 5th grade. Checkout our story here.
Why we made it?
When Porter was about 5, we started playing lots of card games together, but many were tough for younger kids to learn. He’d also been drawing and inventing creatures for years, so we made the game we wanted to play, built around his characters and creativity, quick to learn, strategic enough for parents and fun whether you collect more cards or not. Why is it called Cube Creatures?
Cube Creatures was inspired by Cube Man, a comic book Porter created at camp. The name has since evolved to stand for Creatures United in Battle Excellence.
How Gameplay Is Different
How is Cube Creatures different from other trading card games?
If you've played Magic, Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh, several things that feel fundamental to those games simply do not exist in Cube Creatures:

So I only need one starter set?
Yes. Cube Creatures uses a shared deck system, so one Starter Set covers your whole table. It keeps everyone playing from the same pool of cards, and nobody has to buy their way to a competitive deck. It also makes customization easy and collaborative while enabling some of our favorite mechanics, like stealing Creatures and switching Battlefields.
Is it a deck builder or a battle game?
A battle game first. Deck building and drafting are entirely optional layers you can add once your group wants them. You can play Cube Creatures forever without ever building a deck.

What's in a booster pack?
11 cards total:
- 6 commons
- 3 uncommons
- 1 rare or ultra-rare
- 1 guaranteed foil
1 in 5 packs includes an ultra-rare card.
How big is the box?
The box is very travel friendly and portable at about 4x6x2 inches and includes everything you need to play. It's easy to throw in any bag and we've included a nice magnetic box to keep things closed and organized. We've brought Cube Creatures on many vacations and like to play it on flights.
Do I need booster packs to play?
No. The starter set is complete on its own for 2-5 players. Booster packs are for collecting, for building your own deck, and for drafting with friends.
Is Cube Creatures safety tested?
Yes. Cube Creatures is made for kids and families. We sent all our products to a third-party lab for comprehensive safety testing. It passed with flying colors to U.S. and EU/UK toy safety standards, including CPSIA, ASTM F963 and EN 71.
Collecting
What is a Family Collectible Game?
A Family Collectible Game (FCG) is the term we use for the kind of collectible game we wanted to make: one with foils, rarities, card numbers, artist credits and a set to complete, without chase cards or making collecting feel like a second hobby with its own budget.
How does rarity work?
Four levels, shown by a symbol and color at the bottom of each card: Common, Uncommon, Rare and Ultra-Rare. The bottom of every card also shows the illustrator's name and the card number, like 017/110.
How easy are cards to find?
Every card in the regular 110 card set is meant to be obtainable by an ordinary family. Our rarest standard tier, Ultra-Rare, appears in 1 in 5 packs, making the rarest cards in the main set reasonably attainable.
Set Completion Program
Will a 24-pack box guarantee a complete set?
Not necessarily. Booster packs are randomized, so we can’t guarantee that every box will contain every card in the set. A box should get you pretty close to the 110 card set, but duplicates and a few gaps are normal. That’s exactly why the Set Completion Program below exists.
How does the Set Completion Program work?
If you own a starter set and a 24-pack booster box and you're still missing a few cards, we'll send you up to 3 missing cards to help close the gap for free. Just pay normal shipping.
- Email hello@cubecreatures.com with your order number and the card numbers you're missing (for example 017/110).
- We'll confirm and mail the cards to you.
What is and is not covered?
The program covers up to 3 missing cards from the regular 110-card set, labeled like 001/110. Limited-edition (LE), Kickstarter bonus, promo and other one-off cards aren’t included.
Why 3 cards?
Three cards should cover the typical gap while still keeping the randomness of opening packs fun. If you’re missing more, email us and we’ll see what we can do.
Playing the Game
What are the rules?

How many people can play, and how long does it take?
2 to 5 players. The Standard Game runs about 15 minutes (quick to play on school nights), Grandma's Rules about 10 minutes. There's also a Team Brawl variant for 4 players in two teams.
What ages is it for?
The Standard Game is recommended for ages 6 and up. Grandma's Rules works for ages 5 and up.
What is Grandma's Rules?
It's a simplified version, designed for beginners and younger kids (5+). The rules were inspired by Porter's Grandma who used to make up simplified versions of other card games to play with him when he was younger. We also wanted a version of the game his younger brother (who is 5) could play.
Is there deck building?
Yes, and it's simpler and more collaborative than other trading card games. Because you only need one deck to play, you build it together, choosing your favorite Creatures and power cards. See Deck Building and Drafting.
Artwork
Who creates the game art?
All Cube Creatures game art and illustrations are 100% original and hand drawn by our artists. We take many of Porter's drawings and creature designs and have our artists refine them into finished card illustrations. Every card credits its illustrator by name at the bottom. Is any AI-generated artwork used in Cube Creatures products?
No. All Cube Creatures artwork, including illustrations, icons and other design elements, is original and hand drawn by our artists, without generative AI, stock imagery or third-party content.
We will never use our artists’ work to train AI models. We may use AI-generated images privately as references to communicate ideas to our artists and team, but no AI-generated imagery will ever be used in our final artwork, games or products.

How can kids be part of creating Cube Creatures?
We want Cube Creatures to inspire kids to draw, invent and create, not just play. Our kids art contests give young artists a chance to have their creatures become real Cube Creatures cards. Our first contest produced 8 awesome finalist cards for the first set, and we plan to keep doing more.
Is Cube Creatures made sustainably?
Yes. Cube Creatures is made with FSC-certified paper materials to help protect forests and ecosystems for future generations. FSC certification supports responsible forestry, including forest regeneration and biodiversity.
How does Cube Creatures give back?
We donate 2% of profits to organizations supporting autism and neurodiversity advocacy, causes that are especially important to our family.
This year we are donating to the Autistic Self Advocacy Network.
