Grandma's Rules is a simplified version of Cube Creatures, ideal for beginners and younger kids. It uses only the Creature cards, and each player controls a single Creature at a time instead of a full Battlefield. The rules were inspired by Porter's Grandma.

How to Win

Be the first player to defeat 5 Creatures. Defeated Creatures go into your Victory Pile. When your Victory Pile reaches 5, you win.

What You Need

Grandma's Rules only uses part of the Cube Creatures box:

  • The 30 Creature cards from the deck
  • One Health Point Dial per player
  • The attack die

The Action, Reaction, and Upgrade cards are not used, and neither are the playmats.

Setup

1. Separate out only the Creature cards to form a shared Creature deck of 30 cards, then shuffle it.

2. Each player takes one Health Point Dial.

3. Youngest player goes first. Take turns going clockwise.

1. Draw and Reveal

Each player draws one Creature card from the shared deck and places it face up in front of them. These Creatures face off against each other.

2. Attack

A. Roll the attack die and modify your Creature's Attack Points using the result.

Die face Effect
+2 Add 2 to Attack Points
+1 Add 1 to Attack Points
−1 Subtract 1 from Attack Points
−2 Subtract 2 from Attack Points
2X Multiply Attack Points by 2
Attack misses, no damage dealt

In games with 3 to 5 players, you may attack any player.

Attack roll example in Cube Creatures: a Creature with 6 Attack Points rolls plus 1 on the attack die, giving an adjusted attack of 7

Example: A Creature with 6 Attack Points rolls +1, giving an adjusted attack of 7.

B. Subtract the Attack Points from your opponent's Health Points.

C. Use a Health Point Dial to track the Creature's remaining health.

Example: An opponent Creature with 11 Health Points takes 7 damage, leaving 4 Health Points remaining.

Take turns attacking until one Creature reaches zero Health Points. That Creature is defeated.

3. Score

  • The winner puts the defeated Creature into their Victory Pile.
  • The player whose Creature was defeated draws a new Creature from the shared deck.

Keep taking turns until someone has defeated 5 Creatures.
